Arguably the friendliest coffee roasters in Portland, Dapper & Wise is the coffee equivalent of a smile, a wink, a playful punch on the shoulder. In their photos of roasters, baristas, growers, and coffee drinkers, the camera seems to catch everyone in mid-laugh. Their cafe is breezy and bright, with lots of windows, and their baristas are as eager to chat about the coffee as they are to brew it.

Dapper & Wise was created in 2013, by co-owners Evan Aldrete and Tyler Geel, who also own Insomnia Coffee. The pair is passionate about making specialty coffee accessible and fun, offering a battery of classes and community events alongside their rainbow of roast offerings. In a 2015 interview, Evan Aldrete expressed his intent for "customers to be approached with a sense of thankfulness ... seasoned with a spirit of constant learning".

Roasted in "thoughtful third-wave" style, single origins are geared towards highlighting the flavor of their beans, with a profile that varies from lighter to more developed. Bold blends give punchier options for dark-roast lovers. They even offer a rotating dark single origin: a rare unicorn in the specialty coffee world.

In their own words, Dapper & Wise aspire to "put the fun back in cofunfee". Well, if the fun wasn't there before, it certainly deserves to be!
