With their mellow yet complex flavor profile, exotic Geisha coffees perfectly combine the strength of coffee with the comfort of tea. The Geisha varietal originates, in form and name, from the town of Gesha, Ethiopia. Today, Geisha trees are primarily cultivated in Central and South America, but are unusual in the retention of flavor traits more common to Ethiopian coffees. Geishas carry more delicate fruit and floral notes, as well as more of a tea- or juice-like body, than their Latin counterparts (which tend towards heavier bodies and acidic, chocolate- dominant flavors).
True to form, this cup brings punchy, yet delicate flavors: bright ripe raspberries (very much like Kenya), a nougat-like lemon marshmallow (like a high-grown Central American), and an orange-blossom bergamot (similar to the finest washed Yirgacheffes). This "many cups in one" experience is part of what makes Geisha coffees so fantastic.
We recommend brewing this light roast as a pour over, with a slightly cooler water temperature than traditionally recommended—let your boiling water sit an extra minute or two. This small difference will maximize the nuance of flavors in your cup.
Panama Esmeralda is the classic geisha profile that people have been clamoring for since it first got noticed in the 2004 Panama Cup of Excellence. The prepared for a fruit explosion of flavor that lends itself toward jammy raspberry preserves, sweet and creamy lemon curd, orange oil and aromatic earl gray tea. Emeralda is such a unique and complex coffee that is just such a treat. This is a clear 90+ coffee that begs to be shared with friends and family.
