In the mornings, Jo seeks inspiration from nature, music and a little coffee.
§ What time do you get to sleep? What time do you wake up?
I go to sleep around midnight or 1 AM looking forward to coffee the next morning. Am I the only one? I usually wake up, once again, excited for coffee, around 8 AM or earlier depending on the excitement levels.
§ What do you dream about?
I usually have cinematic-type dreams. Anything from a zombie apocalypse to dreams that just continue my day-to-day experience. Who needs movies when I can just close my eyes?
§ What’s the first thing you do once you’re awake?
I walk over to my five-for-one record player (also plays AM/FM radio, CDs, cassettes, and auxiliary), and play some jams to help me wake up. I then groove over to my espresso machine and preheat it while I mist my plants - super cozy.
§ What morning ritual do you have that’s sacred to starting your day off right?
Music + coffee + plants = sacred and necessary to start my day properly.
§ What one possession/object is essential to your morning?
I need my record player, spray bottle for my plants, and my sugarless espresso with a tiny bit of milk.
§ With whom do you spend your mornings?
Usually Bob Marley, Foreign Exchange, Tame Impala, or classic rock playing on the radio. AKA completely solo with some good music.
§ What do you eat for breakfast?
Depends how much time I give myself. Usually it's been crappy chocolatey cereal, with cardboard tasting toast that's super healthy. On a good day, I'll make a mushroom, tomato and cheese omelette with a light side salad - saved for the weekends lol!
§ What kind of coffee do you drink in the morning, and how do you prepare it?
I always try to buy new beans, thin grinds, different roasts. I'm a sucker for how coffee smells in the bag. The richer smelling, the more I want to taste it. I'll always use my espresso machine to make my homemade cortados! When I'm feeling fun, I add ice cubes and homemade mocha sauce and it tastes better than a $5 cup at an artisan coffee shop. Cup of Jo anyone?
§ What’s the one upgrade you wish you could add to your morning?
A freaking massage, or two extra hours of sleep every morning. Preferably with AC, since my building doesn't allow them. Summer's been rough!
§ What do you consider the end of your morning?
The minute my cup of coffee is over. I immediately know work mode is turned on, and wake up morning mode is ovaaa!
